The electronics team
Integrated crosslinking of state-of-the-art technologies
Our engineering teams are made perfect and supported by the internal know-how in the field of vehicle electronics. By the means of electronics, connecting all groups of vehicle components, the technological up-to-dateness of our traditional cross-country vehicle is underlined. Besides the chassis set-up, electronics are decisively responsible for the comfort of a vehicle. Electronics provide comfort enhancing and more user friendly parts like automatic climate control, electric windows, power adjustable front seats, ultrasonic reversing aid, as well as the integration of telematics systems that even include an off-road tracking function for unknown terrain and an optional reversing camera.

However, safety technologies enabled by electronics – like airbags for example – are of the utmost significance. Yet, electronics not only improve passive safety but likewise they improve active safety by the implementation of electronic assistance systems. Systems integrated in the G-Class are ABS, BAS, ESP®, 4ETS, and the optional tyre pressure monitoring system - to name just a few. Because ESP®, in its function to prevent critical driving conditions, not only activates the brakes but furthermore reduces engine torque; it becomes obvious that electronics also play decisive support functions in the drive train.

All components of the drive train are electronically regulated. Thereby, the following components can be easily activated by the push of a button. First, the Electronic Traction System (4ETS), which automatically switches off when activating the differential locks. Secondly, the electro-hydraulically lockable transfer case with its gear reduction modus being operated by switches in the centre console. And the same applies to the electro-pneumatic engagement of the axle differential locks. Electronics are simply indispensable in contemporary vehicles.
